Dental Implants in Longmont, CO
The dental implant procedure is often the BEST option for replacing missing or broken teeth. When healthy gums and bone are present, a dental implant is a predictably stable option with an excellent track record. People who qualify for a dental implant find it to be the replacement option most similar to the tooth they had replaced! With over 50 years of clinical research to back it up and a success rate of about 95%, dental implants can be a life-changing addition to the dental care you receive.
What Is a Dental Implant?
When we speak of a dental implant, we really are referring to three separate components:
- The implant itself, which is inserted into the jaw bone and bears resemblance to a very small screw. Dental implants are made of titanium and elicit no allergic response in the human body.
- The abutment, which is attached to the implant and connects the crown to the implant.
- The crown, which is the visible tooth that is cemented over the abutment.
The process usually involves three steps:
Step 1: Implant Placement. If a tooth has been previously removed, a dental implant can be placed in the jaw bone and allowed to heal for a period of four to five months. During this healing period, there are several ways to fill in the space and restore your smile. If bone is especially stable, sometimes we are able to immediately place a temporary crown on the implant the same day it is inserted into the bone.
Step 2: Healing. During this time, it is critical that healthy bone establishes itself in and around the implant body. This process is called “osseointegration” and refers to your body’s ability to bind bone to the implant. This is a slow process that requires usually four to five months to heal properly, and if skipped over or rushed, may put the implant at risk for failure.
Step 3: Restoration. After healing is complete, the implant is ready to be put to use. We will fasten the implant abutment to the implant and use a dental lab to fabricate a permanent, life-like crown, which will be cemented in place. After checking for proper fit and balancing your “bite,” your dental implant procedure is complete.
How Long Does It Take to Get a Dental Implant?
In an existing space with healthy bone and gums, you can expect the implant process to last about 4.5 to 5.5 months. During this time, we are always available should any concerns arise, and we will check in periodically to make sure everything is going according to plan.
We are passionate about making this procedure available to everybody. If you qualify for this procedure, we will do everything in our power to bring it within your reach.
We are pleased to announce the recent addition of a no-interest financing option that some of our patients choose to use to pay for dental treatment. Please refer to www.carecredit.com for valuable information.
